The short intro to 'Slightly Happier'
When you meet another person, you can choose to be hostile, reserved, silent, friendly, cheerful or excited (when you line up these 6 behavior types). Sometimes it's nice to hide a little and ensure that no dialogue starts and you don't have to get involved with the other person. But you have to imagine that the person you meet (regardless of where you meet them and regardless of whether you know each other or not) needs a little nudge in a positive direction. Without your little nudge (a 'nod' or a 'smile' or a 'hello' or a 'wave of the hand' or a casual comment about the weather is not enough) the person will have difficulty moving on (perhaps something related to illness, a serious message, an impossible or deadlocked situation, a melancholy, a dead end, a financial collapse or the like). Your little nudge will make the person so happy that he or she now has the opportunity to move on properly - in a constructive way. This is what you should imagine. And it makes you a little happier. The 5 headings to manage your nudges are:
Make the day of others: Your task is to make other peoples day. It usually doesn't take much effort. It can be a recognition, a help, a movement with the body, a song verse. Your task is never to make other people angry or sad. Maybe your task doesn't succeed every time. But the consequence of your behavior is that you make another person slightly happier and thus also yourself slightly happier. You make another person slightly happier and thus make yourself slightly happier. Joy acts like a boomerang. It is thrown out and returns. When joy is thrown out, joy returns to the thrower. When anger is thrown out, anger returns to the thrower.
Use humor: We laugh when we are presented with something unexpected, absurd or surprising. Humor acts as a vent for repressed emotions or taboos, giving us an outlet and mental freedom. We amuse ourselves when we feel smarter or 'raised above' others' less fortunate situations or stupidities.
Be verbally intimate: Verbal intimacy is about creating an emotional connection and security solely through the words you share. It is the foundation for feeling seen, heard and understood without physical contact. Here are the most important elements of verbal intimacy: Vulnerability: Dare to share your innermost thoughts, fears, dreams and insecurities. Recognition: Putting into words what you value and admire in the other person. Active listening: Giving the other person your full attention without interrupting or judging. Validation: Confirming the other person's feelings so that they feel normal and accepted.
Bewitch, amaze, surprise, pow, fascinate, enchant, captivate, captivate, engross, captivate (transferred), excite:
Be brave: That is, to act and follow your values despite fear, doubt or uncertainty. 'Courage' is the ability to confront the unknown, stand up for yourself or speak up, even if the situation feels uncomfortable or you risk failing.
