Courses and training - learn how
Focus on skills. The goal is for participants to learn to do something concrete.
Format: Structured course with a trainer who instructs.
Interaction: Participants practice (e.g. in software, fitness or sales techniques) and receive direct feedback.
Result: The participant goes home with a new or improved ability.
Workshops - solve it together
Focus on collaboration, community and agreements. The goal is to solve specific problems and produce a result together.
Format: A facilitator controls the process, but the participants do most of the work. It is very practical.
Interaction: High level of discussion, brainstorming and group work.
Outcome: Concrete solutions, a plan or a shared product (e.g. a new strategy, a new corporate culture for the company).
Lecture – hear why and what
Focuses on inspiration and information. The goal is to influence the participants’ thoughts, feelings, prejudices and knowledge.
Format: One speaker speaks to an assembly (from small groups to very large gatherings).
Interaction: Typically limited to questions and answers at the end. It is a one-way communication where the speaker shares his expertise and stories.
Outcome: Participants gain new insights, motivation and are entertained.
